Given the high number of improper interventions carried out on the monument over the years, the main long-term objective of this initiative is to restore the heritage building and the respect that this architectural object and its valuable components require, which are currently completely lacking. In this sense, the restoration project also has a pedagogical component, with the aim of ensuring that all the information uncovered through the specialized studies serves not only as a basis for the interventions required in order to restore the identity of the building, but also to develop an example of good practice in dealing with such a built object.
Since the unfavorable situation of the monument extends to its entire site, the aim is also to identify the possibilities of intervention in terms of exterior landscaping, namely the removal of built objects that are incompatible with the status of the church as a monument from the plot. Thus, proposals and directions will also be drawn up for the exterior spaces of the church, namely for a possible new belfry, without damaging the heritage values and with respect for the historical material, differentiating the newly added materials from the original ones. All the proposed works will respect the principles of intervention on historic monuments, also established by the requirements of the National Heritage Institute.
