Rehabilitation and Refurbishment of the Bethlen Gábor Mansion from Presaca

Client: private

Location: Presaca, Sibiu

Years: 2022

Project team: Klaus Birthler, Adrian Bucin, Alexandru Sabău, Ioana Sabău, Silviu Bors

Status: concept

The project involves the rehabilitation and refurbishment of the Bethlen Gábor Mansion within the village of Presaca, Păuca, Sibiu County. It also involves the construction of a tourist villa complex, complementary to the historical building. Having roots in the 17th century and being the subject of successive transformations, the mansion represents an (albeit decaying) architectural landmark for the area. The proposal aims to restore, conserve, and functionally convert the property, in order to achieve a sustainable investment in the field of agritourism. It draws on the characteristics of the picturesque, authentic Transylvanian landscape, namely the vast size of the adjacent courtyards and the richness of the vegetation. The newly proposed buildings represent a pavilionar architectural object that can host a winter garden and an accommodation building. The conceptual approach of the project implies a good relationship between the historical component and the new elements, aiming to develop a restoration project in the contemporary sense of the discipline.
